Mike Campbell’s Upcoming Memoir
Petty’s sidekick has written his story, and it’s due out next March — we can’t wait!
Mike Campbell is the peanut butter to Tom Petty’s chocolate, writing incredible guitar riffs and definitive solos to bring Petty’s songs and lyrics to life.
After Petty’s untimely death, Campbell kept the flame alive via his own band, the Dirty Knobs, which brought some Petty tunes over while expanding the sound the band made famous.
The Knobs’ latest album — Vagabonds, Virgins & Misfits — is really great fun.
Now, Campbell has announced that his memoir, which he has been working on for the past two years, is ready to be released next March 18th. Titled simply Heartbreaker: A Memoir, the book is, according to Campbell:
. . . the story of a poor kid from Jacksonville, Florida who realized a dream through music. It’s a long journey through hard work, dedication and luck. Playing guitar and writing songs has been my inspiration and purpose. It’s a story of hope, redemption and gratitude, a testimonial that dreams can come true if you believe in yourself and follow your truth.
The book is now available for pre-order.
The Dirty Knobs recently finished up a co-headlining tour with Lucinda Williams, where every gig featured an extended set where Williams sang Petty classics like “You Wreck Me” and “Southern Accents.”
We’ve loved the other books about Petty and the band, so are eager to read Heartbreaker.
Until then, we’ll keep the flame alive in our own way!
WooHoo!!
