One of the burdens of being in a Petty tribute band is that he wrote so many great songs. There is no way to squeeze them all into a show. Add in the quirky songs that hardcore fans know and adore, but which don’t cut it with general fans, and sometimes it feels like a real puzzle.
So far this year, however, we’ve found two songs that work well, even if they are not as well-known. We think this is because they tell stories, and because they sound like classic Petty music.
The first is “Straight Into Darkness,” which we learned when Long After Dark was re-released late last year. We’ve played it out a couple of times, and it mixes into the sets very well.
The second we debuted this past weekend at Mount Snow in VT — “The Last DJ.”
Here’s a video of the performance. What do you think?
Come see us soon, and who knows what we’ll be up to by that time?
Love it! Do you play “Counting on You” from Echo? Love that song too!
I remember we did Straight Into Darkness a few years ago. It was a good song for us, but for whatever reason we only played it a couple of times. Glad you guys are bringing it back.
The Last DJ sounds really good. How about Something Big next? I remember I wanted us to learn that one.
